Top 10 Fundraising Tips & Ideas For Your Next Event

Fundraising for an event can be challenging, and thinking of ideas for fundraisers can cause even more stress. With that in mind, here is a list of 10 tips to make the fundraising process a little bit easier!

 Tip #1

Always start any fundraiser by setting a goal. Aim high to motivate yourself and others. Continue to raise your goal as you go!

Tip #2

Create a fundraising page. Be sure to personalize it and cater it to the audience you want to reach. Contact 5 to 10 close friends, co-workers, or family members to ask for donations and to get your page started.

Tip #3

Ask and inform as many people as you can about your cause or event. People can’t donate unless you give them the opportunity.

Tip #4

Don’t forget to send thank-you notes, handwritten or through email, to people who donate to your cause. Always thank everyone for his or her support.

Tip #5

Form a team for your fundraiser. With a team, twice as many donors can be reached and you will have more people on your side working towards your goal. Team members can also motivate each other along the way!

Idea #1

In today’s digital world, social media is becoming one of the most popular places to spread awareness for any cause, event, or person. Use Facebook to create a page or group summarizing your nonprofit or the cause for your event. This will allow Facebook users to subscribe to updates, support your cause, and engage with your page.

Idea #2

It may be cliché, but bake sales are always a hit for fundraisers. Get some friends and co-workers together and have fun baking cakes, cupcakes, brownies, cookies and more to sell at a local Saturday market or other popular place in town to raise awareness for your event as well as the funds to support it.

Idea #3

Sticking with the food theme, try getting a little more creative. Bake sales are great, but a fresh take on the idea can be rewarding. Organize a spaghetti feed for a sports team, a cookie decorating competition for kids, or put together edible arrangements of fruit to sell to friends, co-workers, and neighbors.

Idea #4

A yard sale is another timeless way to raise money. Make sure you cater your sale to the audience you want to reach. If you’re selling antiques and women’s clothing, maybe your audience is older generations and females. If you’re selling video games and baby gear like strollers and toys, maybe your audience is children and parents. Once you have established a clear audience for your sale, make sure to advertise! Post on Craigslist, in the local newspaper, tell friends and neighbors, and put up fliers and signs around town.

Idea #5

Organize a walk-a-thon or other type of marathon or race. Marathons are a great way to gather donors to support your cause, as physical challenges tend to motivate and inspire others while encouraging them to donate at the same time.
