Tips for Planning a Green Event Inexpensively

Looking to making your meeting environmentally friendly without increasing your budget?

Following are our favorite ideas to incorporate into your meetings at low or no cost!

  1. Water – Switch out individual water bottle for water coolers, many attendees bring their own water bottles to events and would be happy refilling their own. Have a sponsor for the water bottles and hand them out at registration.
  2. Don’t Print the Program – Direct attendees to your website or create an app for the event.
  3. Eliminate the Conference Bag & the Swag – What happens to these items after the show? The majority of these are tossed after the show, especially if attendees are traveling to the show as they won’t fit in the luggage going home.
  4. Flexibility with your menu – Source locally and work closely with the chefs to provide a great meal at a reduced cost.
  5. Source local speakers – Save on the travel arrangements for speakers by choosing those that are local.
  6. Signage – Create signs on environmentally friendly materials. Look for ways to print your signs that will allow them to be reused the following year.
  7. Donate your Extras – Donate the extra food & supplies to shelters or schools.
