Graduation Party Basics

So you, or your loved one is graduating, how are you going to celebrate this monumental moment? This is a milestone in life, whether it is from college or high school, it signifies the beginning of a new chapter in life and it needs to be celebrated. Many graduation ceremonies have a limited number of seats, which means the whole family typically can’t attend. There are some basics of how to plan an amazing graduation party.

Pick a Date- The date should be close to the day of the graduation ceremony but on a day that is easy for guests to attend. Weekends are the easiest for most people, especially if there will be a lot of out of town guests. Once the date is sent, send graduation announcements & invitations.

Giving Hotel Options for Out of Town Guest- Sometimes the living room couch is simply not enough for your guest. Giving your guest a couple options in different price ranges are always appreciated. Also, if you have enough people coming from out of town that you’ll need more than ten rooms, many hotels can set up room blocks where they can get a discounted rate. Here is a list of local hotels.

Decide the Type of Party- Will this celebration be a party in your backyard, a rented venue, or just a dinner in a restaurant. What about a theme? Some common themes are casino, Hawaiian, or simply a “school spirit” theme. Whatever type of party it should reflect their accomplishments and look forward to their next chapter in life.  Once you’ve decide on the type of party, get decorations to go with your event. Here are some rental companies that can make any theme come to life.

The Food & Drinks- If you are not doing a dinner at a restaurant, then you are also going to need to provide food and drinks. There are several options for this- catered food (much less work), you make all the food, or go potluck style. This will just depend on what type of event you are wanting to have and what you have time for. Here is a list of great local caters.

As you are planning the event, remember that celebrating the graduate is the most important thing. Check out more of our blogs for more planning basics and inspirational ideas.
