Momokawa Supper Club Dinner Series at Andina Restaurant on March 19th - March 8, 2012

Andina Restaurant will participate in the Momokawa Supper Club dinner series with SakéOne on March 19 at 7 pm, held in Andina’s upstairs event space, Tupai. The series challenges chefs to create a multi-course meal to be paired with specialty sakés. The catch is that the dishes they create must avoid stereotypical Japanese and Asian fare. The evening includes Chef Hank Costello’s menu and saké pairings for $55 per person plus gratuity. Reserve your seats by phone at 503.228.9535.

Tupai Event Space

Andina is a proud ambassador of Peruvian cuisine. Their diverse menu features traditional dishes from the Andes as well as Novo-Peruvian creations, which combine a wonderful array of native ingredients with modern techniques and presentations. Andina’s newest private event space, tupai, is located directly above the restaurant. tupai features a dedicated kitchen and full-service bar; eucalyptus floors, natural light, and Inca-inspired architecture; and an open space that can be customized for any type of event, from intimate dinners and business presentations, to cocktail parties and wedding receptions with live music and bar service. Borrowring its name from the Quechua word connot “gathering space”, tupai can accommodate up to 65 guests for a seated dinner and 100 guests for a standing reception or cocktail party.

From the formal elegance of traditional Japanese bento dining to colorful and delectable serviced buffet delights, let Chef Naoko amaze your guests with her special creations for your special event. The chef’s love affair with the Pacific Northwest ingredients and her more than 20 years experience in organic cooking combines to provide a distinguished cuisine unique to chef Naoko.

Drop by the restaurant on SW Jefferson Street to try the food, or make an appointment with Naoko to discuss your event in detail. She would be delighted to create a special menu and catering style to suit your vision and budget. Or check out Chef Naoko’s catering menu for your selections or to use for ideas.

Honored to have been chosen: At the end of last year, local band Pink Martini released their  latest album – 1969 – with Japanese singer Saori Yuki.  It was an immediate smash hit reaching number one in the US and many other countries.  To celebrate the success, Saori Yuki was invited to Portland to sing with Pink Martini at their concert at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.  Saori Yuki is widely considered to be Japan’s Barbra Streisand and a special pre-concert reception was arranged for her, hosted at the residence of the Japanese Consul General, and Chef Naoko Catering was selected to cater the event.  Naoko was so honored to be chosen to cater for such a high profile event, and to be involved in preparations for the Pink Martini concert, which she also attended.  It was fantastic!

MPI Cascadia 2012 ‘heART of your meeting’ - February 1, 2012

Tacoma, Wash.— The  2012 MPI Cascadia Educational Conference, scheduled for March 4-6, at Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center in Washington will host pre-qualified meeting planners through its Hosted Buyer Program this year.
Industry companies have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with qualified planners in a private setting, which will take place on Sunday and Monday of the event. Interested companies must apply to be a host through MPI Cascadia. Companies not participating in the program may still get in front of meeting planners through the Tradeshow and silent auction.
This year’s conference will feature nearly 40 hours of continuing education content, including information packed breakout sessions and four arts-focused inspiring keynote speakers, such as Amy Lee Segami who will create a one-of-a-kind Painting On Water.
The theme of this year’s Cascadia Educational Conference is ‘heART of your meeting’ which is fitting with Tacoma’s glass-infused downtown. The conference will take place at the Greater Tacoma Convention + Trade Center with views of the city and located within walking distance of local experiences such as the Museum of Glass and delicious restaurants. The boutique, glass-themed Hotel Murano, that was voted number six on Conde’ Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice list, will be the headquarter hotel and will host the themed ‘Night at the Museum’ gala. Come dressed in your favorite character from the movie and network with your industry colleagues.
The conference is open to both members and non-members of MPI. More information and registration can be found on the Cascadia website. Event Trends for 2012 – By The Event Guys - December 15, 2011

The new year is around the corner. The event industry often takes nods from runway fashion, the entertainment industry, and pop culture as it formulates ideas for future events. Here is The Event Guys’ list of top 5 trends to incorporate in your upcoming events.

5. Bling
Bling continues to take many forms in events, from sequin table coverings to rentable chandeliers, look for ways to bring bold cool tones to your table scapes.

4. Swag
Swag is going beyond the throw away pens and one use book lights. Think about branding your event with something people will use year-round. Popular choices are branded iPhone chargers, backpacks or first aid kits.

3. Ditch the Speaker!
Instead of the old model of one person talking in front of hundreds from a one-way communication road, expect more round table events. Think informal meet ups instead of lectures, and other ways that gatherings can be more interactive and less static.

2. Go Green!
Not the color.Think about using technology to save paper: Electronic contracts with digital signatures, Seating plans using peferct tableplan, digital brochures, and even follow-up correspondence using electronic surveys after the event to track the success of your event.

1. Get Social!
The trend to go social will mushroom in 2012. It is no longer an option for events to embrace social media practices, but a necessity. From QR Codes at conventions to Twitter Hashtags at conferences, it is important to understand and embrace the ins and outs of our digital world in order to offer your attendees the breadth and depth of social media.
