Okay – some more great ideas… “stick to one color theme and use a lot of it.  Do red Xmas lights, red foil gift wrap, red ornaments – this makes a really big impact” (Colin Cowie).  Here’s an “oldie, but a goodie” – Stud citrus fruits with cloves to make pomanders that can be hung as ornaments or fill glass bowls with round old-fashioned ornaments.  Use items from nature, like dried hydrangea blossoms from the yard, pine cones or magnolia leaves and attach them to garland to decorate the mantel.  Mirrors are also an easy way to reflect the candlelight – place as many candles as possible or just a few with some fresh greenery for an simple holiday centerpiece.
